5-hive starter (Apis mellifera): 5 hives x 30 kg honey/year = 150 kg. At ₱500/kg = ₱75,000/year gross. Startup cost: ₱25,000-35,000. Net income: ₱40,000-60,000/year. Stingless bee (10 hives): 10 x 2 kg = 20 kg. At ₱800/kg = ₱16,000/year. Lower volume but premium pricing.
Challenges
- Varroa mite infestation (Apis mellifera)
- Lack of beekeeping knowledge and training
- Pesticide exposure from nearby farms
- Climate change affecting flowering patterns
